SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, Shawwal 13, 1437, July 18, 2016, SPA -- Puerto Rico's heavily indebted power company has cut power at dozens of public housing units due to unpaid bills, according to AP. The Electric Power Authority said Monday that nearly 170 customers were affected. Officials said that as a result, 80 percent have now paid what they owed. The cuts targeted housing complexes in Mayaguez, Arecibo, Caguas and Ponce, Puerto Rico's second-largest city. Officials also have cut power at other places including hospitals. The authority announced in January that it would crack down on bill delinquency as the government seeks to recuperate revenue amid a decade-long economic crisis. The company holds $9 billion of Puerto Rico's $68 public debt load, which the governor has said is unpayable and needs restructuring. --SPA 23:30 LOCAL TIME 20:30 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
