MEXICO CITY, Jumada I 07, 1437, February 16, 2016, SPA -- Mexico has issued an $8.9 million fine against Volkswagen Mexico for selling 45,494 vehicles for the 2016 model year without certificates proving they comply with emissions standards, according to AP. The attorney general's office for environmental protection said Mexican authorities are still investigating the sale of vehicles between 2009 and 2015 that may have software that lets them cheat on diesel emissions tests. The Mexico fine covers a range of brands in the Volkswagen family, including VW, Audi, SEAT and Porsche vehicles. Volkswagen says as many as 11 million cars worldwide have the software that enables them to cheat on tests. The company says it is working to fix the cars and to change its culture so it doesn't happen again. --SPA 01:24 LOCAL TIME 22:24 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
