Riyadh, Muharram 22, 1437, November 04, 2015, SPA -- Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Naimi has revealed the intention of his ministry to disseminate an action plan defining the specific national contribution of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia on ways to protect world climate. In a press statement after the conclusion of the sixth ministerial meeting of the leading forum to separate carbon, held in Riyadh this evening, Al-Naimi said: the nations of the world have large amounts of fossil fuels, and that there are those who say let's get rid of fossil fuels for climate change, but we say that this is wrong thinking. He added that our duty is to exert effort to develop the techniques to make fossil fuels environmentally friendly, noting that the conference discussed the experiences of each country in fossil fuels and carbon field, adding that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has an experience since six months ago, with its results expected to come out through two to three years. He pointed out that these are long-term projects big paybacks foreseen, but the most important thing is going to the labs and taking carbon dioxide and other gases and injecting them into the ground to raise the efficiency of extracting oil from the ground. The minister stressed that the Kingdom has extracted oil from fields by 50%, and by a further 70%, and that the Kingdom aims to raise the rate of extracting oil from fields from which the extraction rate was 50% to 70% after the land carbon injection. On the possibility of the establishment of companies to convert carbon to rubber and raw materials in the next phase, Eng. Al-Naimi said that Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is working on this issue and is currently conducting experimental stages, but the purpose is to test prove the technology aiming to reduce emissions. -- SPA 22:33 LOCAL TIME 19:33 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
