Oklahoma City, Rabi'I 27, 1437, January 07, 2016, SPA -- Three earthquakes capable of causing moderate damage were recorded in the central U.S. state of Oklahoma. The U.S. Geological Survey reported that a magnitude-4.7 earthquake hit Wednesday night about 30 kilometers northwest of Fairview, and a magnitude-4.8 one struck nearby less than a minute later. A magnitude-4.0 earthquake was recorded in the area early Thursday. More than a dozen smaller earthquakes also were recorded Wednesday night and Thursday. Local police said there were no reports of damage or injuries. The earthquakes were felt in neighboring Kansas, and the USGS said up to eight states may have been affected. Oklahoma's earthquakes-a new phenomenon in the central United States-have been linked to the injection of wastewater underground from oil and natural-gas production. Regulators have responded by ordering a reduction in volume or the closure of some wells. --SPA 21:56 LOCAL TIME 18:56 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
