Bamako, Ramadan 04, 1436, June 21, 2015, SPA -- Mali's government signed a peace deal with the country's last separatist Tuareg rebel group after months of tension, dpa reported. Various Turag and Arab rebel movements had already signed the agreement on May 15. The UN-backed, two-year roadmap foresees more powers for northern, regional leaders and improving development in the poverty-stricken region. But a key rebel movement, the influential Coordination of Movements for Azawad (CMA), an umbrella body of five separatist rebel groups, had - until now - refused to participate, rendering the deal practically ineffective. On Saturday, CMA deputy leader Djeri Mahamadou Maiga finally added his signature to the accord, during a ceremony in the capital, Bamako. "This peace deal is the work of many," said President Ibrahim Boubakar Keita, who thanked neighbouring Niger and former colonial power France for their support in stabilizing northern Mali. --SPA 14:44 LOCAL TIME 11:44 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
