Miami, Dhu-AlHijjah 21, 1436, Oct 5, 2015, SPA -- Hurricane Joaquin has started to move away from Bermuda, although tropical-storm conditions continue on the Atlantic island, U.S. forecasters said Monday. Joaquin was about 250 kilometers north of Bermuda, with maximum sustained winds of 140 kilometers per hour (kph), making it a category-1 hurricane, significantly weaker than it was last Friday, when it was a category-4 storm with winds of 225 kph, the National Hurricane Center (NHC) said. The storm was moving towards the north-northeast near 20 kph, and a turn towards the northeast is expected later Monday, followed by a turn towards the east-northeast on Tuesday, the Miami-based agency said. Gradual weakening is forecast during the next 48 hours, as the storm passes well east of the U.S. coast. --SPA 17:23 LOCAL TIME 14:23 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
