Saudi Arabia Reviews Its Efforts in Education Before Human Rights Council

Geneva, Ramadan 01, 1436, June 18, 2015, SPA -- Faisal bin Hasan Trad, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s ambassador to the United Nations in Geneva, said today that Article 30 of the Basic Law of Rule of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia states that the state provides education and combats illiteracy. Taking part in a dialogue at the UN Human Rights Council, initiated by the international rapporteur in charge of the "Right to Education", Trad said that “Based on the belief of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in the importance of education in developing states and nations, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia supports education's march in all stages as a basic foundation for development.” Ambassador Trad highlighted that the Kingdom has allocated more than SR200 billion in 2015 budget for public education, higher education and training of man power, reflecting the Kingdom’s keenness in enhancing education. He pointed out that King Abdullah Project for Developing Public Education aims to develop the public education at all stages. “It is a source of pride and honor for the Kingdom that 100% of its citizens who are at the age of the elementary education have joined schools,” he concluded. --SPA 02:40 LOCAL TIME 23:40 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
