Kabul, Dhu-AlQa'dah 15, 1436, August 30, 2015, SPA -- German Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier campaigned Sunday during a visit to Afghanistan for peace talks between its government and the Taliban, calling reconciliation the "only reasonable way" to end the country's long-running conflict, dpa reported. "The unique chance presented by the peace talks must not be squandered," he said after his arrival Sunday. The first official meeting between government and Taliban representatives took place in July. A series of deadly attacks recently, however, caused President Ashraf Ghani to suspend further talks this month. The Taliban is in turmoil after it announced a month ago that its longtime leader Mullah Mohammad Omar had died in 2013 in Pakistan. Germany's top diplomat met Ghani and pushed him to make further reforms. --SPA 15:03 LOCAL TIME 12:03 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
