Amman, Ramadan 28, 1435, July 25, 2014, SPA -- The Jordanian military on Friday shot down an unmanned drone near its border with Syria, in what was the first aerial incursion into the kingdom, dpa reported. The drone was downed near the village of Thigrat al-Jab, 3 kilometres south of the Jordanian-Syrian border, Jordanian sources said. Security forces cordoned off a 5-kilometre radius around the site, witnesses said. According to military officials, the drone had been circling northern Jordan for more than an hour and entered the airspace above Zaatari, the country's largest Syrian refugee camp, before it was struck down from a nearby military base.
