Al-Wajh, Tabuk, Jumada I 12, 1436, Mar 3, 2015, SPA -- Al-Wajh is one of major provinces of Tabuk region on the Red Sea coast and embraces a set of archaeological sites dating back thousands of years. Historical sources have registered Al-Wajh as an ancient location and its role in the successive civilizations, while it has been remembered in a large number of books of Muslim and non-Muslim travelers and Orientalists who have visited it and documented its landmarks by photographs. The meaning of Al-Wajh was also mentioned in the Arabic language dictionaries and lexicons as the water- filled- valley. As for Al-Wajh's seaport, it remains the most prominent of its landmarks at the level of history, through its significant role in trade and tourism activation before and after Islam among the Red Sea ports and its importance increased in the Islamic eras, as historical studies indicate that Al-Wajh was the seaport for Thamud tribe of the Prophet Saleh (peace be upon him), and land port for the pilgrims after the advent of Islam. --More 12:28 LOCAL TIME 09:28 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
