Rescue work for those still trapped is ongoing, Xinhua quoted a spokesman with the rescue headquarters as saying. As of 2 p.m. Monday, they had pumped 5,700 cubic meters of water out of the flooded shaft after the accident happened at 1 p.m. on Thursday at the Anzhishun Coal Mine in the city of Jixi, he said. There were fifty-six miners working in the shaft when the flooding occurred, 40 of whom were rescued, said the spokesman.
