Geneva, Jumada I 20, 1436, Mar 11, 2015, SPA -- The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia underscored the importance of the world community paying greater interest in the issue of violence against children, to mark the 25th anniversary of the Child Rights Convention, of which the Kingdom is proud to be a signatory and is committed to apply it as part of its international obligations. In a speech before the Human Rights Council in Geneva, Dr. Khalid Al-Obaid, member of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia's delegation to the council’s ongoing meetings, said the government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia has endorsed the Child Protection System against harming, negligence, harassment, exploitation and discrimination, noting that the system guarantees the rights of child as prescribed in the Islamic Sharia and international agreements. He explained that the system is interested to protect whoever below 18 years old and aims at facing all kinds of hurting as well as ignorance of children caused by elements originating from the environment around the child and guaranteeing all standards of rights of the child. The system states that a number of acts could be considered tantamount to hurting or ignorance of the child, he said, citing acts causing suspension of education or depriving the child from it as well as harassment or poising him/her to exploitation or mistreatment or insulting or practicing discrimination against the Child for ethnic or social or economic reasons. He concluded that the system obliges whoever sees or witnesses a case which falls in this category to immediately report to the concerned authorities. --SPA 23:34 LOCAL TIME 20:34 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
