Jeddah, Ramadan 27, 1435, Jul 24, 2014, SPA -- Secretary General of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), Iyad Ameen Madani, dispatched letters to the current President of the Security Council, the United Nations Secretary General, the Foreign Ministers of the five permanent members of the Security Council, the European Union High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, and the High Commissioner for Human Rights, urging them to work towards ending Israeli military aggression against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. The OIC Secretary General expressed his deep concern over the continued barbaric Israeli attacks that have killed and injured thousands of children, women and the elderly, and destroyed homes, mosques, schools, farm lands, city infrastructure and facilities, thus endangering the lives of almost 2 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. Madani also expressed serious concern about the continued illegal Israeli blockade which has aggravated the humanitarian situation and the plight of the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip. He underscored the moral, political and legal responsibility of the international community for providing protection for the Palestinian people and lifting the Israeli blockade on Gaza. The OIC Secretary General called on all parties concerned to make earnest efforts to ensure that the international community assumes its responsibility, act swiftly to end the Israeli military aggression and allow the Palestinian people to exercise their legitimate rights in accordance with relevant United Nations resolutions. --SPA 00:24 LOCAL TIME 21:24 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
