Geneva, Dhu-AlQa'dah 6, 1435, Sep 1, 2014, SPA -- The UN Human Rights Council condemned the jihadist group Islamic State for committing atrocities in Iraq and decided to dispatch investigators to the country to collect evidence. The council said in a resolution that it "condemns in the strongest possible terms systematic violations and abuses" of international human rights and rules of war, adding that these actions "may amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity. "The 47-member body called for the prosecution of those responsible for the alleged killings, enslavement, rape and abductions among minority groups, as well as mass executions of soldiers and clergy. It also asked the Iraqi government to uphold human rights in its fight against the Islamic State, and to foster religious freedom in the country. --SPA 22:50 LOCAL TIME 19:50 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
