Lagos, Shawwal 10, 1435, Aug 6, 2014, SPA -- The number of Ebola deaths in West Africa has risen to 932, the World Health Organization said Wednesday, as the disease continues to spread across the region. The number of confirmed or suspected cases rose to 1,711, dpa quoted the WHO as saying. Between August 2 and 4, 108 new laboratory-confirmed (probable and suspected cases) and 45 deaths were reported from all four countries affected by the outbreak - Guinea, Liberia, Sierra Leone and Nigeria. The death of a Nigerian nurse infected with Ebola, announced by country's health ministry Wednesday, was not yet included in the latest WHO statistics. The nurse, whose name has yet to be confirmed, is the first Nigerian citizen and second person to die of the disease in Africa's most populous nation. She contracted the virus after coming into contact with Liberian government consultant Patrick Sawyer, who died of Ebola last week in a Lagos hospital. Five other medical practitioners have been infected with the virus, according to Nigerian Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu. --SPA 19:53 LOCAL TIME 16:53 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
