United Nations, Ramadan 18, 1435, Jul 15, 2014, SPA -- Concerned by the sharp increase in violence endangering civilians in Tripoli, U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Monday called for a halt to the fighting and a return to Libya’s political objectives. Rival militias vying for control of the main airport engaged in heavy fighting Sunday in what media reports described as the worst violence in the capital in six months. The secretary-general believes such violent actions “undermine the sacrifices that so many Libyans made during the revolution in order to create a state based on the rule of law,” Ban’s office said in a statement. “The secretary-general reiterates the urgent need for dialogue among all Libyan actors to agree on a peaceful way forward for the political transition process,” the statement said. --SPA 01:09 LOCAL TIME 22:09 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
