Rome, Sha'ban 14, 1435, Jun 12, 2014, SPA -- Italy's main opposition party, the Five Star Movement (M5S) of comedian Beppe Grillo, decided Thursday to join forces in the European Parliament with British eurosceptic leader Nigel Farage, dpa reported. The decision was taken in a referendum on Grillo's blog open to M5S members. Out of 29,584 voters, 78.1 per cent said they wanted to join the Europe for Freedom and Democracy (EFD) group, led by Farage's UK Independence Party. "I am extremely pleased with this result," Farage said in a statement. He pledged to represent "a genuine voice of opposition" and that he expected to soon win more allies: "This feeds into a process of solidifying what should be a big group." Grillo's referendum offered two other options to supporters: joining the European Conservatives and Reformists (ECR), dominated by Britain's Conservative Party, or refusing to enter any pan-European group. -- SPA 23:03 LOCAL TIME 20:03 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
