Washington, Sha'ban 5, 1435, Jun 3, 2014, SPA -- Colombia’s government and the country’s biggest rebel group will resume peace negotiations on Tuesday, officials said, even though last week’s presidential election has placed the process in doubt. A source in the Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) rebel group told Agence France-Presse (AFP) in Havana the talks would continue for about two days, rather than the 11 days that previous rounds typically have lasted. It would be the first session between the two sides since Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos placed second to an opponent of the peace talks, Oscar Ivan Zuluaga, in the first-round presidential vote on May 25. Polls show the two candidates even ahead of the June 15 runoff. The talks hosted by the government of Cuba started in late 2012 and have led to partial agreements on the terms for the FARC’s political reintegration, rural development, and drug trafficking. --SPA 11:20 LOCAL TIME 08:20 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
