Pakistan Announces Increase in Defence Spending

Islamabad, Sha'ban 05, 1435, June 03, 2014, SPA -- Pakistan's government on Tuesday announced plans for a big increase in defence spending. The plans are part of the 3.9 trillion rupee (39 billion dollar) budget for the 2014-15 fiscal year. Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, presenting the annual budget estimates in parliament, said defence spending was being increased from 627 billion rupees (6.7 billion dollars) to 700 billion rupees. Dar also said the government would spend 525 billion rupees on infrastructure development, which would generate new jobs.
