United Nations, Ramadan 17, 1435, Jul 14, 2014, SPA -- Secretary General Ban Ki-moon on Monday appointed former Irish President Mary Robinson as his special envoy for climate change. The post requires Robinson to work with fellow special envoys John Kufuor and Michael Bloomberg to mobilize political action for the climate summit that Ban will convene in September. Robinson will continue to serve as president of the Mary Robinson Foundation-Climate Justice while working on the summit, which “will be an important milestone to mobilize political commitment for the conclusion of a global agreement by 2015, as well as to spur enhanced action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build climate resilient communities” said the announcement from Ban’s office. --SPA 22:42 LOCAL TIME 19:42 GMT www.spa.gov.sa/w
