Saudi students win medals at Balkan Mathematical Olympiad

Riyadh, May 5, 2019, SPA-- Saudi Students teams won four silver medals and three bronzes at The 36th Balkan Mathematical Olympiad in Chisinau, Republic of Moldova, from April 30 to May 5, 2019. The junior talented Saudi students team of 5 boys and one girl ( Thana Alheidari, Yanbu; Marwan AlKhayat, Makkah; Khalid AlAjran, Riyadh; Nawaf AlGhamdi, Eastern Region; Asad Hamed, Jeddah;Omar Habibullah, Yanbu) are ushered and selected by King Abdulaziz and His Companions Foundation for Giftedness and Creativity “Mawhiba”. Asad Salih won a silver medal and Nawaf AlGhamdi, Khalid AlAgran, Omar Habibullah won bronze medals in the contest. This win is attributed to the Leadership for its constant efforts in disseminating the culture of talent, genuineness and creativity in the society in order to achieve Kingdom's Vision 2030 goals, and prepare talented Saudi students in mathematics, a principal science and a language of new technology said Dr. Saud Al-Mathami, Secretary General of Mawhiba. This achievement came as a result of close cooperation among Ministry of Education, Mawhiba and King Abdullah University for Science and Technology (KAUST), Dr. Al-Mathami added. The Saudi participation in Balkan Mathematical Olympiad has been continuing since 2010. Three golds, three silvers and 19 bonze medals are the successful results of the participation in addition to five recognition certificates, an attestation of the national capabilities in science and mathematics and a reflection of the society awareness of the role of science and mathematics. The Balkan Mathematical Olympiad is an annual contest for pre-college students from one of the member Balkan area countries, in addition to invited countries in recent years as guest countries.
