SCTH Restores More Than 53,000 Archaeological Pieces From Inside And Outside KSA

Riyadh, Dhu-AlHijjah 03, 1439, August 14, 2018, SPA --Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTH) has successfully restored more than 53,000 archaeological pieces from inside and outside the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, helped by a digital registering via digital map in accordance with international standards for the registration and archiving of data relating to sites and archaeological and heritage pieces. The Digital Archeology Project aims to document and register all sites, antiquities, heritage, historical monuments and urban heritage buildings in a comprehensive national digital registry linked to a multi-dimensional digital map, compatible with modern GIS techniques, digital databases, maps, pictures and graphics. The SCTH Director General of Registration and Protection of Antiquities, Dr. Naif Al-Qunour, said that the new digital registration includes complete information about 32,000 national antiquities restored from abroad, as well as about 22,000 national antiquities restored to the SCTH since the project launched by SCTH President, Prince Sultan bin Salman bin Abdulaziz to restore national antiquities in 1433 AH. --SPA 15:53 LOCAL TIME 12:53 GMT 0022 www.spa.gov.sa/w732698
