New Delhi, Dhu-AlHijjah 20, 1439, Aug 31, 2018, SPA -- Indian authorities have issued an alert in two north-eastern states over flooding from a rain-swollen river that flows from China while evacuating hundreds of locals from low-lying areas. Media reports said China had informed India that the water level of the Tsangpo river, as it is known in Tibet, had been rising in recent days, dpa reported. The Tsangpo flows as Siang into the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh, and Brahmaputra River in the Assam state. Arunachal state relief commissioner Bitol Tayeng said the Upper Siang and East Siang districts were vulnerable to flooding but the administration was taking all necessary precautions. "Some 300 villagers were moved to a higher ground in these districts. Nineteen more people who were marooned in the region were also rescued by the army," he said.
