Deputy Speaker of Shura Council Receives Delegation of Advisers and Assistants of the Members of the US Congress

Riyadh, February 17, 2020, SPA -- Deputy Speaker of Shura Council Dr. Abdullah bin Salem Al-Mitani received here today a delegation of advisers and assistants of the members of the US Congress. At the outset of the meeting, the Deputy Speaker of Shura Council welcomed the US delegation, affirming the close relationship between the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America. He affirmed that the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America share and agree on a number of humanitarian concepts and work to combat terrorism and reject extremism in the world. He added that the exchange of these visits contributes to strengthen bilateral relations between the two countries, praising the level of relations that link the Kingdom with the United States in all political, economic and cultural fields. He pointed out that the Kingdom supports the Palestinian cause in various international forums in addition to its continuous support to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA). The Deputy Speaker of Shura Council said that the Iranian regime is still pushing the region towards further escalation through its blatant interference in many Arab countries and its support for a number of terrorist organizations, affirming that Iran's possession of a nuclear weapon will have negative impacts on the region. With regard to the Yemeni situation, Dr. Al-Mitani said that the Kingdom has made great efforts to resolve the crisis in Yemen according to the three references represented in the GCC initiative, the outcomes of the national dialogue and Security Council Resolution 2216, pointing out that the Houthi militia continues to violate international legitimacy and continues to impede the delivery of humanitarian aid to its beneficiaries. On the other hand, the Saudi-US Parliamentary Friendship Committee held a meeting headed by Council member and Vice-Chairman of the Committee Dr. Ibrahim Al-Nahhas with the delegation of US Congress advisors and assistants.
