OIC Committee led by Saudi Arabia Discusses Development of Rohingya Minority with UN General Assembly President

New York, March 03, 2020, SPA -- Permanent Representative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to the United Nations, Ambassador Abdullah bin Yahya Al-Muallami, and the permanent delegates of the International Minor Committee on Rohingya Muslims in Myanmar met on Monday evening with the President of the United Nations General Assembly's 73rd session, Ambassador Tijjani Muhammad. During the meeting, Ambassador Abdullah Al-Muallimi appreciated the efforts of Ambassador Tijjani Muhammad in supporting the rights of the persecuted Rohingya minority in Myanmar, pointing out to the decision of the International Court of Justice demanding the government of Myanmar to fulfill its obligations towards providing protection for the Rohingya minority, affirming that the court decision was based on the General Assembly resolution entitled on the "Human Rights Situation of Rohingya Muslims and other Minorities in Myanmar" submitted by the OIC countries based on the initiative of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia " the head of the OIC Contact Group on the Muslim Rohingya Minorities" and expressing his appreciation for the efforts of the Gambia to take the initiative to refer the case to the International Court. Al-Muallami explained to the President of the General Assembly the need to urge the Security Council to take practical steps to put an end to the suffering of Rohingya Muslims in line with the decision of the International Court, and the importance of following the Court’s decision with concrete steps by the Security Council to implement it, and urged the Myanmar government to abide by it. --SPA 09:38 LOCAL TIME 06:38 GMT 0003 www.spa.gov.sa/w1279627
