New York, June 26, 2019, SPA -- Kuwait here today condemned the repeated targeting of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia by launching ballistic missiles by the Iranian-backed terrorist Houthi militias. The condemnation came in a speech delivered by Kuwait's Permanent Representative to the UN Ambassador Mansour Al-Otaibi at a UN Security Council special session on implementing the Resolution 2231 which supports the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) annexed to the nuclear agreement signed between Iran and the P5+1. Voicing concern about information in the Secretary-General's report relating to the origins of ballistic missiles launched against Saudi Arabia - as well as conventional weapons found in the region - Al-Otaibi condemned recent attacks against Saudi Arabia and voiced solidarity with that country. "We condemn the targeting of Saudi Arabia by ballistic missiles which endanger the Kingdom's national security and civilians' lives," he said. He expressed Kuwait's full solidarity with and support for Saudi Arabia in all measures taken to protect its security and stability. He urged the council to shoulder its responsibility to ensure the implementation of the Resolution 2231 (2015). Al-Otaibi urged the UN Security Council to continue assuming its responsibilities to follow up all relevant resolutions. On the recent developments in the Gulf, Al-Otaibi affirmed Kuwait welcomed the unified stance of the UNSC members two days ago in condemning the attacks on oil tankers as a violation to the international law and a dangerous threat to international peace and security. He recalled various resolutions by the Arab League member states that asked Iran to end such activities and take steps to build trust and mutual respect with its neighbors. --SPA 02:15 LOCAL TIME 23:15 GMT 0044 www.spa.gov.sa/w1126736
