A first-half goal from Iliman Ndiaye gave Sheffield United a crucial 1-0 win against Wigan as they remained on track for automatic promotion. Ndiaye’s eighth-minute strike settled a game full of goalmouth action at Bramall Lane. Wigan remain rooted to the bottom of the table with only six games remaining, while the Blades’ promotion chances were aided when Burnley sealed their place in the Premier League by winning 2-1 at fourth-placed Middlesbrough in the evening match. Ozan Tufan scored a penalty with the last kick of the match to snatch a point for Hull in a wild 4-4 draw at Sunderland. The hosts trailed 1-0, led 2-1, trailed 3-2 and then led 4-3 in a topsy-turvy contest as they looked set to give their Championship playoff hopes a major boost. But the Tigers left Wearside with a point after Tufan swept home his second goal of the game from the spot in the eighth minute of added time. Tufan’s opener was cancelled out by quickfire strikes from Joe Gelhardt and Amad Diallo before Allahyar Sayyadmanesh sent Hull in level at 2-2 at half-time. Regan Slater put Hull in front, only for a Diallo penalty and a Jack Clarke finish to again change the complexion of the game before Tufan had the last word. Millwall’s manager, Gary Rowett, questioned the officials after his side were denied a late penalty in a 0-0 draw with their playoff rivals Luton. The defender Jake Cooper seemed to be wrestled to the ground in the final minute at the Den but the referee, Darren England, saw nothing wrong. “Coops gets held round the waist and dragged to ground and they let that play on,” said Rowett. “Coops has had that all season. It’s been quite embarrassing how many shouts we’ve had and we haven’t had one go our way.” Norwich reignited their play-off hopes with a convincing 2-0 win at top-six rivals Blackburn. David Wagner’s men came into the game winless in four but produced a fine performance against the team immediately above them. They were set on their way in the 11th minute through a superb team move that ended with Liam Gibbs’ first goal for the club. Gabriel Sara doubled the advantage 10 minutes after the restart. Jordan Hugill turned his fortunes around as he led Rotherham to a 3-1 win over West Brom. The captain haunted his former club all afternoon but initially gifted them the opener by giving away a first-half penalty, which was tucked away by John Swift. The striker then netted either side of the break to put Rotherham in the ascendancy and continued to give Albion’s backline a torrid time. “I feel like this was the best we have played in a long time,” said Rotherham’s manager, Matt Taylor. “It was important Jordan got his goals when he did. The first half an hour for him was a test of character but chances kept coming his way.” Tom Cannon scored both goals as Preston won 2-0 at QPR to continue the west London side’s slump towards the relegation zone. The on-loan Everton youngster netted twice in four second-half minutes to boost North End’s play-off push and pile more misery on Rangers. QPR, who were top of the table in October, have now lost nine of their past 10 matches and all but one of their seven since Gareth Ainsworth took over as manager. Their latest loss leaves them one place above the relegation zone and outside it only by virtue of Reading’s recent six-point deduction. Reading suffered a further setback following their six-point deduction in midweek when they could manage only a tame 1-1 home draw with Birmingham to slip into the relegation zone. Andy Carroll gave Reading an early lead from close range but Blues levelled just before the half-hour through a towering Lukas Jutkiewicz header. Huddersfield boosted their survival chances after beating Watford 3-2 at Vicarage Road. Yáser Asprilla gave Watford a first-half lead but Neil Warnock’s side equalised through Jack Rudoni before the break. Matty Pearson headed the visitors in front 10 minutes after the restart and Kian Harratt made it three on 81 minutes. The Watford sub Britt Assombalonga pulled one back before a melee ended with the home goalkeeper, Daniel Bachmann, being dismissed for two yellow cards in quick succession. Connor Wickham scored his first goal for Cardiff as they thrashed their relegation rivals Blackpool 3-1 at Bloomfield Road. The striker also played a part in goals for Sory Kaba and Joe Ralls, with Josh Bowler’s reply coming too late for Blackpool. Cardiff’s first win in four lifted them up to 19th and made painful viewing for their former manager Mick McCarthy. A late Bristol City double stunned Stoke as the travelling Robins came from behind to win 2-1. The Potters took the lead before the interval when Nick Powell marked his second start since returning from injury with an accomplished strike. Alex Neil’s side controlled large parts of the game as they looked to stretch their unbeaten run to six matches but the visitors levelled through the defender Zak Vyner with 18 minutes left and then completed the turnaround with five minutes to spare when the substitute Anis Mehmeti scored his first goal following a January move from Wycombe. It ended City’s three-match winless run and secured a first away victory since early February. Coventry’s hopes of bridging the gap to the play-off places took another dent as they were held to a goalless draw at Swansea. That made it five dropped points at the start of April.
