The Saudi team mediating with Yemeni parties briefed the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council about the results of their meetings in Sanaa recently. The team, headed by Saudi ambassador to Yemen Mohammed Al-Jabir, met on Monday with President Rashad Al-Alimi and members of the council. The ambassador conveyed to the president the greetings of the Saudi leaders and their wishes that ongoing communications with all Yemeni parties be successful in reinvigorating the political process, which leads to achieving a sustainable, comprehensive resolution in Yemen. During the meeting, the president and the PLC were briefed on the results of the meetings held in Sanaa between 13-8 April 2023 with the participation of the Omani delegation, and the positive atmosphere surrounding them. Al-Alimi and PLC members lauded the Saudi and Omani efforts while underscoring the importance of moving forward with necessary humanitarian steps to alleviate the sufferings of Yemenis in all governorates of the country, including payment of salaries, increasing flights to and from Sanaa International Airport, opening the roads to Ta"iz and others. They stressed the need for reinvigorating the political process based on the Three References agreed upon both nationally and internationally under the supervision of the United Nations. The moves comes in continuation of Saudi Arabia"s efforts and its Peace Initiative in Yemen announced in 2021, which was agreed upon by the Yemeni Government, and aiming to build on the positive atmosphere of the current humanitarian ceasefire. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on Saturday that a Saudi Arabian team, headed by Al-Jaber, held a series of meetings in Sanaa with the Yemeni stakeholders between April 8-13. The talks, which were held in a positive and optimistic atmosphere, featured in-depth discussions on many pivotal issues related to the humanitarian situation; the release of all prisoners; a ceasefire, and comprehensive political solution in Yemen.
