JHAH is now offering Moderna COVID-19 Bivalent booster vaccinations, first booster (third dose) and second booster (fourth dose), to eligible patients who are 12 years and above. A fifth dose is available for eligible immunocompromised patients only who are 12 years and above in alignment with the MOH’s new COVID-19 vaccination guidelines. Bivalent COVID-19 vaccines include a component of the original virus strain to provide broad protection against COVID-19 and a component of the omicron variant to provide better protection against the virus. Who is considered an immunocompromised patient? Immunocompromised patients are patients with: 1. Kidney failure. 2. Active cancer under treatment. 3. Solid organ transplantation while currently receiving immunosuppressant drugs. 4. Bone marrow transplant during the past two years while currently receiving immunosuppressant drugs. 5. Advanced or untreated immunodeficiency disease. Why do I need the COVID-19 Moderna booster vaccine? Vaccines offer significant protection against severe illness and hospitalization. However, their effectiveness decreases over time. Getting your booster dose boosts your immunity and protects you from new COVID-19 variants. How do I book an appointment for the Moderna booster dose of the vaccine? If you meet the conditions to receive the booster dose of the vaccine, you can book your appointment using MyChart if you are registered for care at JHAH.
