Saudi Arabia launches new weather warning mechanism

Saudi Arabia has launched a new mechanism for dealing with weather conditions in the Kingdom. Minister of Environment, Water and Agriculture, and Chairman of the Board of Directors of the National Center for Meteorology (NCM) Eng. Abdulrahman Al-Fadhli launched in Riyadh the new mechanism with representatives of security and civil sectors involved in crisis management attending the event. In a statement at the opening session of the national workshop for updating the warning mechanism, titled “Cooperating and reporting in dealing with weather conditions”, National Center for Meteorology CEO Dr. Ayman Ghulam stressed that the center strives to use best practices, technologies and outputs to service all beneficiaries. He said the center contributes to achieving collaboration, based on a mechanism that works to meet different needs and is crucial to preserving lives and property, and play a pivotal role in raising public awareness about weather conditions and ways to deal with them. Ghulam said that as the entity authorized to announce, monitor, and report weather conditions, the center is working to develop services, programs and processes that help give the most accurate information, which will help everybody deal with weather conditions appropriately. He said the workshop will help the work of sectors concerned with managing crises and emergencies, and boost cooperation among relevant sectors involved in crisis management by identifying their roles. — SPA
