Egyptian conjoined twins successfully separated after 17-hour surgery

A surgical team led by Dr. Abdullah Al Rabeeah on Wednesday successfully separated Egyptian conjoined twins Salma and Sarah, who were attached in the head from birth. The complex surgery lasted 17 hours and was conducted by a team of 31 surgeons, consultants, specialists and nursing and technical personnel. Dr. Al Rabeeah, advisor at the Royal Court and Supervisor General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center (KSrelief), said that the operation was performed on the directives of the Saudi leadership. This is the 57th surgery carried out in the Kingdom under the Saudi program for the separation of conjoined twins. Over the past 33 years, the Saudi program operated on 130 conjoined twins from 23 brotherly and friendly countries, Al Rabeeah said while stressing the Kingdom"s pioneering role in the medical profession. Dr. Al Rabeeah expressed his sincere appreciation and gratitude to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman and Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman for their unwavering support for the Saudi program to separate conjoined twins. The twins" parents thanked the Saudi leadership and the specialized medical team for performing the operation and providing the twins with the necessary treatment. They praised the Kingdom"s tremendous humanitarian work. They also expressed their appreciation for the warm reception and generous hospitality throughout their stay in the Kingdom.
