RIYADH: Al-Wedad Charity Foundation was recognized with two G2T Global Awards at a ceremony held on July 3 in Paris, France. The foundation was rewarded for its work with orphans by being named Best Humanitarian Initiative in the Arab world. The CEO of Al-Wedad Charity Foundation Dhaif Allah Al-Nami received the Arab Professional Excellence Award as the best CEO in social and humanitarian work. Al-Wedad Charity seeks to spread awareness in the community about the issue of children with no parental care through no fault of their own. The chairman of the board of directors of the foundation, Hussein Bahri, said these achievements are the culmination of the tremendous and unlimited support that the non-profit sector in the Kingdom receives from the government. Under an agreement with the Saudi Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, Al-Wedad Charity Foundation is responsible for all orphaned children in the Kingdom — receiving them, providing them with temporary care, and assigning their custody to qualified Saudi families. Al-Nami said: “The foundation’s winning of this award resulted from continuous efforts that lasted for years since its establishment in 2008, with a qualitative humanitarian initiative aimed at achieving optimal care and proper upbringing for orphaned children.” He explained that the humanitarian initiative was based on the principle of replacing shelters in which orphans live in isolation from society. The foundation works to assign orphans to loving families that provide attention and education. So far, Al-Wedad has placed more than 1,000 orphan children with foster families across the Kingdom. The main conditions for fostering an orphaned infant stipulated by the charity include verifying the social, economic, and psychological eligibility, accomplished through safety, health, and security checks. The family must be Saudi, with the wife’s age not being under 25 years old, and breastfeeding must be fulfilled. The G2T Global Awards were launched in 2016, and have crowned major Arab companies and institutions in various vital fields for their work. They also aim to strengthen Arab partnerships by ensuring communication among business executives.
