JEDDAH: Saudi Arabia’s permanent representative to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, Saleh bin Hamad Al-Suhaibani, received the executive director of the OIC Independent Permanent Human Rights Commission, Noura bint Zaid Al-Rashoud, in Jeddah on Thursday. Al-Suhaibani congratulated Al- Rashoud on her appointment to the position, as the first woman to be elected since the establishment of the commission. He praised the commission’s efforts aimed at protecting and promoting human rights in Islamic countries and Muslim minorities in non-Islamic societies. Al-Rashoud appreciated Saudi Arabia for its support for the commission, which represents one of the central bodies of the OIC, noting that the Kingdom has spared no effort in supporting the commission since it was established in 2011, including Riyadh’s initiative to establish its independent headquarters. Sinceitsinception the commission has deliberated on a number of important issues of contemporary concern such as rights of women and children.
