LONDON: The Aqaba Digital Hub is set to launch the largest data center in Jordan by the end of 2023, Jordan News Agency reported on Monday. According to ADH CEO Eyad Abu Khorma, the center has created 300 direct and indirect jobs for the Aqaba community since it began construction on the JD100 million ($141 million) project. The new data center, which has a capacity of 6 megawatts, has been linked to a neutral internet exchange point, allowing data interchange with local telecommunications firms, internet service providers, and digital content providers. This shortens access times and lowers the cost of data sharing. The project aims to create a secure platform for sensitive data in line with international standards that will serve as both a primary data center and a backup center for business continuity and disaster recovery. Abu Khorma said that the center has partnered with major global corporations to offer their expertise and skills through training programs and workshops. It has also teamed up with governmental and educational organizations to empower the local community in Aqaba. The CEO added that Jordan has emerged as a key global center and distribution point for submarine cables connecting Europe and India, thanks to the flexible legislation regulating the communications sector.
