RIYADH: Conjoined twins Hasna and Hasina arrived in Saudi Arabia, where doctors will assess their condition and see if an operation to separate them would be feasible. The Nigerian twins touched down at Riyadh’s Khalid International Airport in Riyadh on Monday night and were transported to the King Abdullah Specialist Hospital for Children. The twin girls arrived with their parents via a Saudi ministry of defense medical evacuation aircraft under the directives of King Salman and Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman. The Kingdom has a long history of providing life-altering surgeries to conjoined twins at no expense. For more than 30 years, the skilled work of surgeons at Saudi Arabia’s Conjoined Twins Program has allowed children to enjoy healthy, normal and independent lives, making the Kingdom a world leader in one of the most complex surgical procedures in modern medicine. Earlier this month, Saudi surgical teams carried out a successful 16-hour operation to separate Tanzanian twins. Supervisor-General of the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center Dr. Abdullah Al-Rabeeah extended his thanks and gratitude to the leadership for supporting the Saudi program for separating conjoined twins and for humanitarian work in general. Al-Rabeeah explained that the program embodies Saudi medical excellence, which comes in line with Saudi Vision 2030 objectives, to develop the health sector in the Kingdom and make it at the forefront of countries around the world, the Saudi Press Agency said. Parents of the twins also thanked the King and Crown Prince for the warm reception and generous hospitality.
