Saudi Arabia, Qatar witnessing rapid development and cooperation at all levels: statement

RIYADH: Saudi-Qatari relations are witnessing rapid development and cooperation at all levels, a joint statement said following a coordination council meeting between the two nations on Tuesday. Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman was in Qatar for an official visit where he met Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad, the emir. The two leaders recognize the council was an important means of communication between the two GCC countries, and was “necessary to strive with all seriousness to deepen and expand the areas of bilateral cooperation in a way that achieves a future sustainable renaissance and growth,” the statement said. The crown prince and his delegation arrived in Doha on Tuesday to attend a GCC Supreme Council, and Saudi-Qatari Coordination Council meetings. The crown prince and Sheikh Tamim expressed their satisfaction with the outcomes, positive initiatives, and consensus reached in the subcommittee meetings, where a number of agreements and memorandums of understanding were signed. It also looks to implement the recommendations and initiatives of the subcommittees with the support and backing of both the Executive Committee and the General Secretariat of the council. The leaders stressed the importance of continuing to support and develop the council’s work and its subcommittees and permanent coordination to contribute to enhancing its effectiveness as an institutional tool regulating business in various fields. On the economic front, the two nations indicated the necessity to strengthen economic partnerships, developing joint work to diversify and increase the volume of trade exchange between them. They also stressed the importance of continuing to consolidate and enhance cooperation and political consultation between the two countries. The two neighbors also noted the importance of strengthening security and military cooperation in a way that contributes to supporting the security and stability of the region. Sheikh Tamim congratulated Crown Prince Mohammed on Riyadh’s victory to host the World Expo 2030, and the Kingdom’s nomination to host the 2034 World Cup. “As I leave your brotherly country, I wish to express my deepest gratitude and appreciation for the warm reception and generous hospitality accorded to me and the accompanying delegation,” the crown prince said in a cable. The Crown Prince left Qatar on Tuesday.
