Saudi Human Rights Commission President Dr. Hala Al-Tuwaijri emphasized that the Kingdom would continue exerting its efforts to promote and protect human rights in its bid to achieve international peace and security. In her speech at a high-level event held at the headquarters of the United Nations Human Rights Council in Geneva on Monday to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, she said that this is a valuable opportunity to review what has been accomplished over the past 75 years and draw lessons learned to correct the course of human rights in an atmosphere of constructive dialogue and respect for global cultural diversity that adds to human rights and does not detract from them. Representatives of the UN member states offered their voluntary pledges on the occasion. Dr. Hala noted that the voluntary pledges made by the Kingdom included continuing to promote and protect human rights by harmonizing national legislation and practices with international human rights standards. “This is in light of the Kingdom’s values and principles and investing in the Kingdom’s position and global influence to continue its vital role in its regional and international environment to settle regional and international disputes and international cooperation and solidarity to ensure maintaining the basic pillars of the United Nations such as security, peace, development, and human rights. The Kingdom is also continuing to launch and activate global initiatives related to human rights, such as the Initiative to Protect Children in the Cyber World, the Saudi Green Initiative, and the Middle East Green Initiative,” she added.
