DUBAI: From music to art, here are four pop-culture highlights from across the region. For the latest updates, follow us on Instagram @arabnews.lifestyle Amr Diab ‘Makanak’ The Egyptian megastar dropped his first album since 2020 on Dec. 28 with a live show in Riyadh Boulevard, having signed an exclusive partnership deal with streaming platform Anghami. The 12-track record quickly grabbed the top 12 places on Anghami’s charts and became, according to a press release, the platform’s “fastest- and highest-streamed album in history,” with 25 million streams within three days of its release. Rima Yussef ‘Ashtakou Li Wajhika’ The Saudi-based Lebanese singer-songwriter — who sings in standard Arabic, rather than a regional dialect — released her latest track, a strings-heavy slow burner, this month. It was a collaboration with Lebanese producer Sleiman Damien. The accompanying animated video was AI-generated, “offering a unique glimpse into the convergence of music and technology,” according to the artist’s record label, Universal. Azza Fahmy ‘Lotus’ The inspiration for the popular jeweler’s latest collection came from “the sacred tombs and temples of Egypt, where the Lotus flower has held profound significance for millennia,” according to a press release, resulting in “a tribute to ancient Egypt’s legacy, a culture that continues to inspire and captivate the world.” Tammam Azzam ‘Diary’ The Syrian artist’s latest solo exhibition, “Diary,” which includes this untitled work from 2023, is on show until Feb. 20 at Dubai’s Ayyam Gallery, continues Azzam’s work with collage and layering, which he began in 2018. “Where much of Azzam’s previous work was seen to index the war-torn country he left behind in 2016, his visual narratives construct an arc broader than displacement and memory,” the show brochure states.
