Col. Turki Al-Harbi, spokesman of the Presidency of State Security, emphasized that Saudi Arabia’s pioneering experience in combating terrorist crimes and its financing is unique in the world. “The essence of this experience is human life,” he said in a press briefing on the sidelines of the regional workshop titled “International cooperation and coordination responsible for evaluating countries,” which was held in Bahrain. Col. Al-Harbi said that the Kingdom deals with the crimes of terrorism and terrorism funding according to fixed and clear principles based on the law. “The Kingdom is one of the first countries to enact a law that deals with this crime through the regulations for combating terrorist crimes and its financing.” “Out of the Kingdom’s belief in the seriousness of this crime and its complex nature as a cross-border crime that passes through overlapping networks, most notably financing networks, the Kingdom has contributed in 2017 to establishing the Terrorist Financing Targeting Center (TFTC) as an international center based in Riyadh,” he said. Col. Al-Harbi stated that the Presidency of State Security represented the Permanent Committee to Combat Terrorism and its Financing in attending the workshop. The US Department of the Treasury attended in its capacity as the chair of TFTC, as well as the Gulf Cooperation Council countries as members of the center. It is noteworthy that TFTC makes distinguished and significant efforts in the field of combating terrorism and its financing by adhering to the UN Security Council resolutions and international agreements, and implementing Financial Action Task Force (FATF) standards, financial and administrative contribution to capacity building, initiatives and programs, in addition to hosting meetings, conferences and workshops.
