Who’s Who: Adhwan Al-Ahmari, chairman of the Saudi Journalists Association

Adhwan Al-Ahmari was elected chairman of the Saudi Journalists Association on Jan. 28. The association, established in 2003, is a licensed civil society body and serves as an umbrella entity for the nation’s media professionals. Al-Ahmari is currently the editor-in-chief of Independent Arabia, which he participated in founding and launching in January 2019. He is also the presenter of “Al-Madar” talk show, broadcast on Asharq News, where he hosts guests from different fields such as politicians and economists. From September 2019 to 2022, he was a member of the board of directors of the Saudi Press Agency. From 2013 until December 2018, Al-Ahmari served as the head of the digital media department at Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper. During this time, he focused on establishing and relaunching the digital section in multiple languages and played a key role in developing the newspaper’s digital platforms and multimedia. Prior to that, Al-Ahmari served as the editor-in-chief of “Al-Ousbouh fi Sahaa” program at Rotana Media Group and worked as a journalist at Al-Hayat newspaper in 2012. He worked as a reporter, editor, and columnist for Al-Watan newspaper from 2003 to 2012. Additionally, he served as a correspondent and producer at Orbit Group from July 2005 to March 2008. In 2019, he won the Saudi Media Forum award in the political journalism category and the Youth Press Award in Kuwait in 2013. Al-Ahmari holds a bachelor’s degree in business administration from King Saud University, and earned a master’s degree in digital media from New York University in 2012. Throughout his career, he has interviewed many prominent global figures, including Prince Bandar bin Sultan, who served as the Saudi ambassador to the US from 1983 to 2005. Al-Ahmari has conducted interviews with the first president of Kurdistan, Masoud Barzani, the former president of Iran, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, American diplomat Paul Bremer, TV legend Larry King, and many others.
