RIYADH: Saudi Arabia, through its aid agency KSrelief, is supporting food security during Ramadan through its food basket distribution program Etaam, which has already reached over 1 million beneficiaries in 18 countries through the provision of 195,583 baskets containing essential food items. The Etaam project is among the numerous humanitarian initiatives the center has implemented to alleviate the suffering of vulnerable persons worldwide. As part of the Etaam initiative, KSrelief recently distributed 500 food baskets in Podgorica, the capital city of Montenegro, benefiting 2,500 individuals. The project aims to distribute 8,700 food baskets in the Balkan country to assist the neediest families during the holy month. In Albania, KSrelief distributed 185 food baskets in the city of Korce, benefiting 925 individuals from 185 families. The project aims to distribute 5,300 food baskets in 35 Albanian governorates. In Bangladesh, KSrelief handed out 400 food baskets to needy families, benefiting 2,000 people, while 1,000 food baskets benefited 6,000 individuals in Nangarhar province, Afghanistan. The Saudi aid center also distributed 1,593 food baskets to families in need in Gezira State in Sudan; benefitting 7,083 individuals. KSrelief also distributed 1,710 food baskets in the River Nile State, benefiting 9,832 people. In South Africa, KSrelief distributed 400 food baskets to the neediest families in the city of Mogale, and in Indonesia, the center distributed 717 food baskets in the West Java province, benefiting 2,768 individuals. Since its inception in 2015, KSrelief has reached 98 countries, implementing 2,829 humanitarian projects valued at more than $6.5 billion that have benefitted millions. The center targets crucial sectors such as education, health, nutrition, water, environmental sanitation, and shelter. The bulk of the support has gone to Yemen ($4.3 billion), Syria ($391 million), Palestine ($370 million) and Somalia ($227 million).
