Ahh – the internet! She’s a tricky beast. We love her and we hate her. Yet occasionally (every day, several times a day), she serves us up something so laugh-out-loud funny that we simply HAVE to forward it on to a pal, who will reply with a cry laughing emoji having not watched it, with no intention to ever watch it. So in the spirit of that, and given that my IRL friends don’t appreciate my taste, here are my favourite funny things that I can remember having seen on the internet. 1. Kitty Flanagan This is possibly the best moment in the history of television. A talkshow blunder. A bumbling presenter. A mispronounced name and the best comeback I’ve ever seen. Anything else I say will spoil it. Please just watch it. 2. Victoria Wood – WI sketch Do you know that you can just sit around all day watching Victoria Wood on the internet?? This is one of my favourite sketches from her 2000 show All the Trimmings. I just love the commitment to the drama, it’s so stupid. 3. Flo & Joan – I Drank Too Much I love seeing Flo & Joan live but sometimes that’s not an option because, for instance, it’s the middle of the night or they’re on holiday or they’re calling the police – please Sarah, leave them alone. So on those occasions, I turn to the online catalogue of these two incredibly talented musicians who used their powers to make the dumbest stuff they could think of. 4. This sunflower singing Sia This is one my partner sent me and I think it speaks for itself. 5. Celeste Barber Celeste Barber owns the format of parody. Everything she does is hilarious and also, dare I say it, educational? 6. Friends bloopers but specifically Lisa Kudrow laughing I find hysterical laughter hilarious. There is something particularly infectious and joyful about Lisa Kudrow breaking character on the set of Friends. Enjoy. 7. Saturday Night Live – tampon farm This is on the list because I was torn between several different Maya Rudolph, Kristen Wiig and Kate McKinnon moments and helpfully SNL put them all in one place in this sketch. 8. Fern Brady on Taskmaster Taskmaster is great fun at best of times but this supercut of Fern Brady saying “Ohhh nooo” over and over again makes me laugh endlessly. 9. Simon Pegg and Pom Klementieff prank Harriet Rose I am a sucker for a well-executed prank and Pom Klementieff pulls this off so well. The best bit for me is when her voice cracks saying “Hashtag Rome”. It’s good clean fun! 10. Sean Lock – carrot in a box For my final entry I present to you, Sean Lock playing the first game of carrot in a box. I cannot say more without ruining the ending. It’s all fantastic. Special shout-out to Roisin Conaty saying “Jimmy’s ploughing on” halfway through.
