King Saud University launches Dr. Ibrahim AlMuhanna chair for energy and media

King Saud University has approved the establishment of the Dr. Ibrahim AlMuhanna Chair for Energy and Specialized Media at the University"s headquarters, with the inaugural event attended by numerous academics, professionals, and stakeholders. Prof. Dr. Yazeed Al-Sheikh, Vice President of King Saud University for Research and Graduate Studies, praised Dr. Ibrahim AlMuhanna’s support for establishing the Chair, highlighting his loyalty to the University. He emphasized the significance of petroleum and energy media specialization as a critical and influential field in shaping the Kingdom"s image both internally and externally. “This overlap between disciplines, expertise, science, and activities requires continuous coordination and support, delivering innovative and positive outputs that add value to societies,” Prof. Dr. Al-Sheikh added. Dr. Ibrahim AlMuhanna, a former Advisor in the Ministry of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources, stated, "The Chair aims to promote research and development in diverse media fields, focusing on specialized media in energy, urban real estate, smart cities, health, and support for the visually impaired." After signing the Chair-establishment agreement, Dr. AlMuhanna noted that the Chair would foster an academic and professional environment that helps develop the skills and knowledge necessary to produce outstanding media content, serving specialized communities and promoting public awareness. “In an era of increasing interest in renewable energy and sustainability, media requires tools and knowledge to deeply and precisely cover these complex sectors,” he added. Dr. Mutlaq Al-Mutairi, supervisor of the Dr. Ibrahim AlMuhanna Chair for Energy and Specialized Media and Associate Professor in the Department of Media at King Saud University, stated that the Energy Media Program aims to equip media professionals with the knowledge and skills needed to provide innovative and reliable media content. The program addresses energy issues from multiple perspectives, informing audiences about policies, technologies, and their social and environmental impacts. Dr. Al-Mutairi outlined the activities of the Dr. Ibrahim AlMuhanna Chair, including organizing workshops, seminars, and conferences on energy developments, preparing research and studies on energy topics, collaborating with government and private entities to produce reliable media reports and analyses, and providing training courses for journalists and energy media professionals. Dr. Ibrahim AlMuhanna served as an adviser to the Saudi Minister of Energy, Industry, and Mineral Resources for over 30 years and is a member of the Board of Directors of the Arab Gulf States Institute in Washington. He also previously served as a professor in the Department of Media at King Saud University. — SG
