Born in Massachusetts, Meghan Trainor, 30, released albums as a teenager. She had a diamond-certified hit with her 2014 song All About the Bass and won the best new artist Grammy in 2016. She has had eight multi-platinum singles, two multi-platinum albums, sold out three world tours and written hits for artists including Jennifer Lopez and Little Mix. Her new album is called Timeless and she performs at Wembley’s Capital FM Summertime Ball on 16 June. She has two sons with actor Daryl Sabara and lives in Los Angeles. When were you happiest? Whenever I’m with my kids. What is the trait you most deplore in yourself? My self-criticism. What is the trait you most deplore in others? Being mean online. What was your most embarrassing moment? When I was 11, I went down a water slide and my bottoms didn’t go with me. Everyone saw my bare white butt. Aside from property, what’s the most expensive thing you’ve ever bought? At the beginning of 2019, I brought my entire family with me on my honeymoon to Bora Bora. Describe yourself in three words Hardworking, silly and special. What makes you unhappy? My spiralling thoughts at night. What is your most unappealing habit? I pick my skin around my fingers till they’re bleeding. Who is your celebrity crush? Hilary Duff. Which book are you ashamed not to have read? All of them. I am not good at reading. When’s the last time you changed your mind about something significant? My son’s name was going to be Bruce Barry and we changed it to Barry Bruce. And I’m so glad we did. Who would play you in the film of your life? My daughter, my nepo baby. I want two daughters – that’s my dream. What did you want to be when you were growing up? A pop star. What was the last lie that you told? I love you. In LA we say “I love you” to everyone and I guess I don’t love everyone. I say “love you” even to my doctors and the delivery guy. What is your guiltiest pleasure? The Ricki Lake Show on YouTube. To whom would you most like to say sorry, and why? My younger self for not believing in her. What or who is the greatest love of your life? Daryl, my husband. Our mutual friend Chloë Grace Moretz set us up. I said I really want a nice guy and she said my best friend is the nicest guy I’ve ever met, and he truly is. Which words or phrases do you most overuse? I say “period” a lot on TV when I’m panicking. If not yourself, who would you most like to be? Betty White, an American treasure. Would you rather have more sex, money or fame? Money. How would you like to be remembered? She was a fun, silly girl who wrote positive songs that helped others – and she was a good mama. What happens when we die? I have no idea, but I hope I meet my soul family and it’s a beautiful reunion, and I hope I get to watch my kids every day and spy on them. Tell us a secret I’m constipated.
