LUCERNE — Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan emphasized that any process leading to peace in Ukraine will need Russia’s participation and that it would involve difficult compromise. “Saudi Arabia encourages negotiations to end the war in Ukraine. We believe that it is important that the international community encourages any step towards serious negotiations which will require difficult compromise as part of a road map that leads to peace,” he said. Prince Faisal made the remarks while heading the Saudi delegation to the Ukraine Peace Summit in the Swiss city of Lucerne on Saturday. Addressing the summit, the minister said Saudi Arabia was committed to helping to bring an end to the conflict. Saudi Arabia is viewed as one of the leading candidates to host what is being mooted as a follow-up conference to this weekend’s gathering of dozens of world leaders in Switzerland. Prince Faisal discussed with the leaders and representatives of the participating countries about the ways to achieve peace and intensify efforts to reach a solution that leads to ending the crisis. The minister reiterated his country’s keenness and support for all international efforts aimed at resolving the Ukrainian-Russian crisis and ending the war. Saudi Arabia supports all efforts aimed at reducing the escalation in Ukraine and seeking negotiated political solutions. The Swiss summit will discuss fostering peaceful resolutions and bolstering endeavors to end the crisis and bring relief to civilians affected by the conflict. It is noteworthy that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently visited Saudi Arabia and met with the Crown Prince and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Salman. During the reception, the Crown Prince affirmed the Kingdom’s keenness and support for all international efforts aimed at resolving the crisis and chalking out ways to mitigate the humanitarian suffering.
