Talks on the devastating war in Sudan ended Friday without a ceasefire deal but with progress on securing aid access RIYADH: The Muslim World League expressed its strong support and appreciation of efforts made by the Aligned for Advancing Lifesaving and Peace in Sudan group following talks in Geneva dedicated to alleviating the suffering of the Sudanese people, saving lives, and working toward a permanent cessation of hostilities. Talks on the devastating war in Sudan ended Friday without a ceasefire deal but with progress on securing aid access on two key routes into a country facing one of the world’s worst humanitarian crises. Secretary General of the MWL Mohammed bin Abdulkarim Al-Issa praised the work of the ALPS group. The coalition, which includes Saudi Arabia, the US, Switzerland, the UAE, Egypt, the African Union, and the United Nations, is operating under the framework of the Jeddah Declaration and is led by Saudi Arabia. War has raged since April 2023 between the Sudanese army under Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF), led by his former deputy Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo.
