Saudi Arabia hosts event on 'unlocking innovation' for sustainable development at UN

Saudi Arabia"s Ministry of Economy and Planning has organized an event on the sidelines of the high-level week of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly titled "Unlocking Innovation for Sustainable Development through Platforms and Partnerships." The event highlighted the pivotal role of e-platforms in bringing together various stakeholders, including governments, businesses, civil society, and academic institutions, to drive impactful and inclusive sustainable development. It featured several panel discussions, interactive Q&A sessions, and case study presentations with the participation of high-level representatives from the public sector, international organizations, the private sector, and academia, including senior policymakers and experts in sustainable development and innovation. Speakers at the panel discussion included Hajar Algosair, General Supervisor for Assistant Deputyship for Sustainable Development at the Ministry of Economy and Planning; Professor Carlos Duarte, Chief Scientist at WAVE; Dima Al-Khatib, Director of the United Nations Office for South-South Cooperation; John Dutton, Head of UpLink and Executive Committee Member of the World Economic Forum; and Julius Van Heel, Senior Partner and Leader of the International Development Sector at Deloitte. The discussion was moderated by Abdulrahman Al-Zamil, Director General of Sustainability Empowerment at the Ministry of Economy and Planning. The session concluded by emphasizing the importance of continuous collaboration and innovation to achieve sustainable development goals. It called on the international community to collaboratively address the challenges hindering progress on these goals, highlighting the role of innovation in overcoming obstacles and creating a more inclusive and sustainable future.
