The former Metropolitan police officer David Carrick has been charged with eight sexual offences against two women. Prosecutors announced on Monday that Carrick, 49, would face charges of rape, indecent assault and coercive control concerning two women, dating back to more than three decades ago when he was a teenager. The first set of charges concern alleged attacks on one woman from 1989 to 1990, when Carrick was 14. The Crown Prosecution Service said he faced five counts of indecent assault against this woman. He is also alleged to have attacked another woman between 2014 and 2019 – and is charged with two counts of rape, one count of sexual assault and one count of coercive and controlling behaviour. Lisa Ramsarran, chief crown prosecutor for the Thames and Chiltern region of the CPS, said: “The Crown Prosecution Service has authorised Hertfordshire constabulary to charge David Carrick with sexual offences against two women. “David Carrick has been charged with five counts of indecent assault, two counts of rape and one count of sexual assault. He has also been charged with one count of coercive and controlling behaviour.” The investigation into Carrick was led by DCI Iain Moor, of Hertfordshire constabulary’s major crime unit, who said: “The charges come in the wake of an extensive and complex investigation conducted over a period of several months.” The CPS said that the first court appearance of Carrick, formerly of Stevenage, Hertfordshire, would take place on 17 October at Westminster magistrates court in London.
