Saudi Arabia supports UN efforts to commemorate International Day of Victims of Terrorism

The Saudi Foreign Ministry renewed the Kingdom"s condemnation of terrorism in all its forms, stressing that all acts of terrorism are criminal and unjustified regardless of their motives and objectives. The ministry noted that Saudi Arabia contributes through various efforts to combating terrorism by supporting the efforts of the United Nations in commemorating the International Day of Victims of Terrorism. Saudi Deputy Foreign Minister Eng. Walid Al-Khuraiji explained that Saudi Arabia has made efforts to combat terrorism and extremism through technological means, and hastened to establish the Global Center for Combating Extremist Ideology (EDITAL), as a mechanism concerned with monitoring and analyzing extremist thought to confront and prevent it. He stressed Saudi Arabia’s continued cooperation within the framework of its international efforts with the mechanisms of the United Nations Human Rights Council, as it received the Special Rapporteur on the promotion and protection of human rights and fundamental freedoms while countering terrorism, who praised the efforts made by Saudi Arabia in combating terrorism. Al-Khuraiji stressed the importance of concerted international efforts at all levels to empower all victims of terrorism through education, rehabilitation, providing support and care for them, limiting extremist thought and discourse, and eradicating terrorism from its roots. Al-Khuraiji was participating in the United Nations International Conference on Victims of Terrorism under the title "Education as a Tool for Prevention, Peacebuilding and Empowerment of Victims of Terrorism", held in the Spanish capital.
