OIC Secretary General Dr. Yousef Ahmed Al-Othaimeen has strongly condemned the two coordinated car bomb and suicide attacks on Saturday, 28 October 2017, that targeted a hotel and a former parliament house in Mogadishu in which at least 23 people including policemen were killed and more than 30 others injured. The victims were killed when two car bombs detonated outside a hotel near Somalias presidential palace in Mogadishu on Saturday -- two weeks after the deadliest car bombings in the nations modern history. Al-Shabab, Africa’s deadliest extremist group, claimed responsibility for the attack that killed a baby and two children, a senior Somali police colonel and a former lawmaker, Capt. Mohamed Hussein told the Associated Press. Dr. Al-Othaimeen, who deplored the persistent assaults against the security forces and innocent civilians by the Al-Shabaab terrorist group that also claimed the latest attack, conveyed his deep sympathy and sincere condolences to the families, government and people of Somalia over these dastardly and un-Islamic acts which violate all known human values. While reiterating the OICs full solidarity with the authorities in Somalia in their sustained fight against terrorism, the Secretary General called on international partners of Somalia and countries in the region to enhance their support and strengthen partnership with Somalia in order to eradicate the menace that Al-Shabaab continues to pose to regional peace, security and stability. The OIC is the second largest inter-governmental organization after the United Nations with a membership of 57 states spread over four continents. The organization is dubbed as the collective voice of the Muslim world. It endeavors to safeguard and protect the interests of the Muslim world in the spirit of promoting international peace and harmony among various people of the world.
